Fordham and Hawaii have never played each other in a college football game and that is going to continue past 2020.
According to a report in SI.com, the Fordham at Hawaii nonleague game scheduled for Sept. 12 is off.
On Monday, the Patriot League announced that none of its FCS (NCAA second tier) teams will fly to competitions due to the COVID-19 health crisis, so the Rainbow Warriors will be left without an opponent on that particular day, according to the story. Another conference restriction on athletes not returning to campus before the regular student body is another sign that Fordham and the six other Patriot schools won’t have enough preparation to play football when their regular season begins. The Rams’ conference opener at home against Lafayette is scheduled for Oct. 3.
The Patriot League’s protocols are just another sign that the health crisis is making it difficult for football to be played in the fall. Recently, there were multiple reports of at least 30 players from national champion LSU either testing positive for COVID-19 or having close contact with someone who has tested positive.
In Hawaii, Mid-Pacific Institute (which sends its football players to the multi-school Pac-Five program) announced last week that its students will not participate in football in the 2020-21 school year.
In Maine on Monday according to multiple reports Bowdoin College announced it has cancelled its fall sports season
