RECRUITING UPDATES: Kailua’s Blazen Lono-Wong Signs To Play For Arizona State; Kapaa’s Kawika Rogers Is Oregon Bound

Note: This post has been updated with news about Kailua’s Blazen Lono-Wong and some other athletes on signing day Wednesday. Bedrock Sports Hawaii will update this post if more news from signing day becomes available.

UPDATES:

Kailua defensive end Blazen Lono-Wong signed a letter of intent to play football for Arizona State on Wednesday.

Wong was recruited by, among others, Sun Devils assistant Shaun Aguano, who is a former Kapaa High School standout.

Kailua’s Blazen Lono-Wong will play for Arizona State, joining his cousin and Sun Devils inline hockey player Jaden Nahoi-Baricar (below, right) at the school.

Lono-Wong, a 6-foot-4, 240-pounder, is valued for his edge rushing ability, according to Rivals.com. He received his offer relatively late, in December, and orally committed on Jan. 21 before signing Wednesday. He also had an offer from Hawaii.

Lono-Wong’s cousin, Kapolei graduate Jaden Nahoi-Baricar, plays club inline hockey at Arizona State.

In other D-I FBS recruiting updates:

>> Uso Seemalo, a 2020 Molokai grad who most recently played on the defensive line at Garden City Community College in California, signed to play for Kansas Sate. He is the first player for the Farmers to accept a Division I FBS scholarship. He also had offers from Akron and UNLV.
>> Saint Louis receiver Devon Tauafa made an oral commitment to play for the University of Hawaii on Wednesday, but did not sign yet.
>> Buffalo Kruize, a 6-5, 270-pound offensive tackle and a 2019 Moanalua graduate who most recently played for City College of San Francisco, received offers from Arizona State and New Mexico State.

PREVIOUS CONTENT:

Before the state football tournament, Kawika Rogers had zero offers from Division I FBS colleges.

It didn’t take long for mainland recruiters to notice the 6-foot-5, 327-pound Rogers after he proved to be a big cog in the bulldozing running game for the Kapaa Warriors, who won the Division II state championship.

There wasn’t a ton of news on the second of two national letter of intent signing days yesterday (the first was Dec. 15), but within the last few weeks, Rogers made a blockbuster decision when he committed to play for the Oregon Ducks. And he signed on the dotted line Wednesday. Rogers also received offers Arizona State, Fresno State and Hawaii.

“Rogers is a solid addition for the Ducks, who landed a legitimate Power 5 conference-caliber prospect late in the process,” a report at OregonLive.com read. “He could be a versatile piece up front in Eugene.”

Kapaa teammate Solomone Malafu, who was a major two-way star of the Warriors’ run to the D-II state title as a linebacker and running back, recently received his first two offers — from Arizona State and Utah. Malafu is part of the Class of 2023 and will be back to play his senior season at Kapaa in the fall.

There has been some other football recruiting movement recently, some of which has been reported by other outlets:

Class of 2021
>> Mililani linebacker Wynden Hoohuli, who redshirted at Nebraska last season, signed a litter of intent to play for Hawaii on Wednesday.

Class of 2022
>> Saint Louis quarterback A.J. Bianco, who originally committed to Hawaii, signed with Nevada.
>> According to a report in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, former Campbell quarterback Blaine Hipa, who transferred to Chandler, Arizona, to finish his high school career, appears to be headed to play in the Ivy League at Princeton, which is a D-I FCS school that doesn’t offer scholarships.
>> Kahuku running back Kau Lana Kaluna — who had a monster performance in Kahuku’s Open Division state championship game win — received an offer to play for Montana Western, an NAIA school.
>> PAC-5 linebacker Joshua Arcayena, an ILH All-Star and Maryknoll student, announced on Twitter that he is going to play for Lewis and Clark College (Portland, Oregon).

Class of 2023
>> Kahuku linebacker Leonard Ah You received new offers from Arizona, Nevada and Utah State.
>> Kahuku linebacker Liona Lefau received new offers from Arizona, California and Nevada.
>> Saint Louis slotback Trech Kekahuna received new offers from Boise State and Nevada.
>> Kahuku safety Brock Fonoimoana received new offers from San Jose State and Utah State.
>> Campbell wide receiver Kamaehu Kaawalauole received a new offer from Colorado State.

Class of 2024
>> Campbell defensive back Kela Moore received an offer to play for San Diego State.
